About
The Little Red Door Clay Co. is owned by Nova Scotian artist Terri Buckland. Terri has been creating abstract earring art pieces using polymer clay since 2018. This original collection of work is now known as The Classic Collection. In 2020, The Whimsy Collection was added, which changes in design with the seasons, trends and holidays.
Every piece of jewelry is lovingly handcrafted with tender care and ocean air in a seaside studio in Lunenburg Co., where Terri resides with her wife and their furry children.
Terri is a full time entrepreneur, and owns Poplar Paper Co. in addition to The Little Red Door.
Hi! I'm Terri! Welcome to my online shop.
Our Story
Things you'll find here are Love, expressed as art. I take inspiration for my designs from things I love. I especially love the beauty and scenery of the Maritime provinces on the Atlantic Coast of Canada, my beloved home.
After moving to a beautiful renovated cottage on Whynaught's Cove with my wife Christine, I became inspired to create art. There was a lovely second building on the property with a red door. It just called for a hobby! I decided to use the shed with the red door as a Studio, and named my first creative business after its likeness: The Little Red Door.
My main goal was to explore an urge I had to create. I started out painting furniture, as well as making abstract and watercolour art.
In January 2018 I picked up clay for the first time, and it was magical! I felt deep resonance, like clay and I had been friends before. Out came a little abstract version of the village in Peggy's Cove, a neighbourhood close to home I frequently walked. I turned it into a pair of earrings for myself and that's how my journey with clay began!
In 2021, I resigned my position as an RN and became a full time business owner. This jump has allowed me the blessing of supporting my wife on her journey with cancer, of which she was diagnosed in 2020, as well as to live my dream of being a full time artist.
"I love every part of my beautiful business"
I am also a truth seeker, meditation junkie and spiritual growth student. I love to kayak, bike and beach. Animal rescue is a passion of mine, and, in one way or another, I am always doing my part to save our furry friends in need.
My work as an artist grows and evolves as I do. As part of the creative process, I strive to remain authentic, intuitive and vulnerable.
I believe we should let what we love be what we do!
Thank you so much for stopping by. I am so happy to have you here!
